Holiday time tends to be when most of us cut back on our exercise routine. The weather is cooler, it is getting darker out and we are going from one holiday party to the next. Exercise tends to be the first thing we give up on when we feel strapped for time. Interestingly enough, 15 minutes of moderate exercise a day may add three years to your life, as msnbc reported. This week my Wellness and Lifestyle group has stepped up to the challenge of adding an additional 10 minutes of exercise to their day, rather than the usual behavior of giving up on exercise all together during this hectic holiday season. I challenge you to join us!
The 10 Minute Morning Workout Challenge: five basic exercises using your own body weight, for seven days straight, in addition to your current exercise routine. Keep the work out right next to your bed and before you do anything else squeeze in those 10 minutes in!
(2) Prisoner Squat (12 repetitions). Take a traditional squat and hold your hand behind your head. The key with prisoner squats is keeping back straight and core engaged.
(5) Stickups (15 repetitions). When I first saw these I thought they were silly, but once I started doing them, I realized “Oh no Stickups are the real deal”! Important part with these are to keep contact with the wall.
BONUS POINTS: If you have extra time try going through the exercise circuit 2-3 times in a row. Or try splitting up 2-3 sets though out they day, first thing when you wake up, then at 2:00 PM when you hit that afternoon lull and during the commercials of your favorite evening TV program.
